Join us for a two-hour cruise on the Edisto River along a
stretch that locals have nicknamed"alligator alley". Easily
observed, alligators are fascinating creatures . Once
endangered they have recovered in fine fashion and
are common today. They date from 150 million years ago
and survived the extinction of the dinosauers. Full grown
they average 10-15 ft in length and can easily weigh
1,000 pounds.
Babies show a distinct banding of
yellow and black.
Juveniles can stay with their mothers
for as long as two years.
This cruise is also a wonderful opportunity for bird lovers
as the same creeks and marshes that harbor the gators are
home to a wide variety of birds from the noisy and beautiful red
winged blackbirds to king fishers, egrets, and great blue herons.
